This morning, I had the opportunity to spend time with the outstanding team at the Dakota County Community Development Agency (CDA) talking about something that sits at the heart of their work and mine: community.
We discussed public service, authentic leadership, and what it means to build strong, resilient communities where everyone feels a sense of belonging. So grateful to the entire CDA team for the extraordinary work they do every day to make a difference.
I also shared the true story behind my recently published book, A Season on the Drink, and the journey of bringing that incredible story to life. I’m continually moved by how people connect with different parts of the story—the characters, the familiar local places, the rhythm of the ballgames—and the deeper themes of dignity, shared purpose, and hope. These kinds of conversations remind me that stories don’t just entertain; they help us see one another more fully.
Many thanks to CDA Executive Director Tony Schertler for the invitation and for such a thoughtful and engaging conversation!
